Standard entry requirements for Egypt
All travelers must meet Egypt’s basic entry requirements before boarding their flight.
Here are the main requirements:
- Valid passport
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in Egypt, and have at least one blank page for entry stamps.
- Visa (most nationalities)
Most travelers must meet the relevant visa requirements for Egypt before arrival. This may mean applying for an e-Visa, visa on arrival, or a consular visa, depending on nationality.
- Health documentation (if required)
Certain travelers may need health-related documents (see health section below).
- Customs declarations (if applicable)

Egypt’s visa requirements
Egypt’s visa requirements depend on:

Who needs a visa for Egypt?
Almost all nationalities require a visa to enter Egypt. Only a small number of countries (around 10) are visa-exempt for short stays.

Visa requirements for Sinai resorts
Certain nationalities do not need a visa to visit the Sinai resorts of Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba. These are:
- European Union countries
- Israel (must enter through the Taba border crossing)
- United States
To benefit from this visa-free policy, you cannot leave the resort during your stay. You must also arrive through the following airports:
- Sharm el Sheikh
- St Catherine
- Taba
When you arrive you’ll receive a visa-free entry stamp in your passport. This permit allows you to stay in Egypt for up to 14 days.
If you plan to visit for more than 14 days or travel outside of your resort, you’ll need to apply for an Egyptian visa. The same applies if you’re not from one of the countries listed above.
Egypt e-Visa requirements
Many travelers can apply online through Egypt’s electronic visa system.
To meet the Egypt travel e-Visa requirements, you’ll need:
- Eligible passport
- Email address
- Credit or debit card
Note: If you’re not eligible for the e-Visa, you’ll need to apply for a different visa type.
